Having arrived at the Krasnorussian wormhole bay, the group was now holding Midori as one would hold a pig over a spit roast. Kazansky was leading them up the stairs.
“Do we know what to do with this woman?” Kazansky asked. His teammates replied with a combination of shrugs and “Idunnos.” Krovin walked behind them at a brisk pace, his hands in his pockets.
“We need to put her down!” said Nicolette. “This girl is heavier than she looks! Merde!”
“Doctor Voronov!” Kazansky shouted up at the control booth, where the good doctor looked down on them. “Are there any rooms in the bay that are available? Empty? Vacant?”
The doctor ran down to meet his comrades, who were trying desperately to haul Midori’s unconscious body up the stairs.
“The bunks are all taken, the medical bay is occupied, and don’t even think of putting it in my quarters. The new RKKA Supercomputers are in – and there’s no more room.”
“Well we have to find some place before she wakes up!”
“What about your room?” asked Natasha.
“It’s too small. We’d never fit inside.”
“Your office is anything but small!”
“That’s my office. What about your room?”
“My room? You can’t—“
“Is it occupied?”
“No, but—“
“Alright, comrades! We’re going to Barracks 69!”
“Stop! I’m not letting you in!”
“Can’t do that, I’m your commanding officer – it’d be insubordination!” He said as Nicolette and Shruiken hauled off Midori in the direction of the barracks.
“You can’t do this!” Natasha protested, “It’s invasion of privacy!”
“Do shut up.” Nicolette said as she let go of Midori. “If you care, you wouldn’t mind if she was in your room. She’s about to die, for heaven’s sake.”
“It’s not that, it’s what’s—“ Natasha was cut short by Kazansky.
“Lieutenant, your door is locked. We’re going to have to bust it down.” He turned to Captain Blanchfleur. “Captain, do your thing.”
“With pleasure.”
The Captain fired a series of shots at the door and kicked it down. What she saw shocked her, at the very least sense of the word.
Racks and leather were everywhere, as well as an assortment of whips, restraints and chains. There were also gags and what looked like plastic pe—
“What the hell?” said Kazansky.
Nicolette and Shruiken nearly dropped Midori as they stared into the room.
“Lieutenant Kalashnikova…” said Kazansky, “You have some serious explaining to do!”
“I can explain!” She said, “… okay… I can’t explain! I’m a… uh… I can’t say it.”
Nicolette stepped in and said it for her, “She’s a girl who’s into naughty business, major.”
“We’ll worry about this shit later.” Kazansky said. He then gestured Nicolette and Shruiken to put Midori on the table. “
Krovin walked in at the last moment, saw the things in the room, and simply shook his head. “Children…” He then turned to Kazansky and said, “Major. Tie her to the bed. Use the strongest restraints in this room. And do it before she wakes up.”
“Excuse me, say what? I’m not taking orders from anarchist scum like you.”
“If you value your friend’s life, then you will.”
Kazansky pointed his finger at Krovin threateningly, but then helped Nicolette and Shruiken bring Midori up to the table. They then tied her down with chains.
“Now then, let me work. I want all the doors and windows closed. Fluorescent lamps only. Do it now.”
“You heard him.” Kazansky said, “Let’s get to it.”
As Kazansky, Shruiken and Nicolette proceeded to shut the doors and windows in the room, Krovin stood over the unconscious body of Midori.
“You thought you could get rid of me that easily, didn’t you?” he said. No reply came. “I know you can hear me, Iblis.” He leaned closer, “Speak to your old friend.”
Suddenly, Midori’s eyes flashed open – they glowed a bright yellow. Her voice became deep and echoed through the room.
“Do you really think you can actually make me leave this body and transfer back to your ancient, pathetic shell? I am the lord of all evil. Don’t make that mistake.”
Krovin paced around the table – he was enjoying this, “All right then, lord of all evil – let’s see you get out of those chains.”
“Do not test me, Arkady.”
“Well I am.”
Without another moment’s hesitation, Midori – or rather, Al’Iblis, broke through the chains that held it down. Krovin stood his ground and grimaced. Kazansky, Shruiken and Nicolette quickly ran over to hold Midori down again – they were all thrown off as if they were pillows. Midori then jumped off the table and clutched Krovin by the neck.
Krovin had not felt real pain for a long time. He coughed as Midori’s hand gripped his face like a vice.
“I don’t want to kill you now, Arkady. You have been a valuable instrument… and these three – they mean nothing to me… not now, at least.” With that, it leapt through one of the bulletproof glass windows and ran out into the base.
“Where’s she going?” asked Kazansky.
“Out to the old Black Army base is my best bet.” replied Krovin.
“Should we chase her?” asked Nicolette.
“That would be idiotic to a galactic level. Al’Iblis cannot be killed.”
“So what do we do?” asked Shruiken.
“We need to find another way.”
“The Gondwanans.” said Kazansky.
“You may have a point, they have some powerful magic.”
“All right then – tall, dark and ugly agrees with me.” continued Kazansky. “Comrades, we’re going to use the new experimental interdimensional communication system.”
“EXICOS?” asked Nicolette with a raised eyebrow.
“Yeah, that’s right.” said Kazansky. “Is there something wrong with the name?”
“It sounds like a stock market ticker.”
“A name is a name, and as long as its acronym isn’t a human body part, it’s a good name.”
“Let’s just get this over with.” said Shruiken.
